Activities

There are many activities to choose from on the Sunshine Coast. Whether you are looking for a relaxing break or a holiday taking in the Sunshine Coasts numerous attractions, beaches, national parks, markets and dining experiences there is something for everyone.

Sorrento Holiday Apartments are centrally located at Alexandra Headland only a few minutes away from some of the best beaches on the coast and only a short 10 minute walk to Mooloolaba Esplanade with it’s great restaurants. You can jump in the car and explore the hinterland, Noosa or Caloundra which are all only around a half drive away.

Attractions

Australia Zoo allows kids to get up close to and learn all about native and exotic wildlife, plus their daily Wildlife Warriors show features some of the Zoo’s favourite stars. Another place where the kids can meet wildlife is SEA LIFE Mooloolaba, with thousands of creatures from the deep on display, including some very loveable seals. Be sure to also check out Aussie World, Bellingham Maze, Big Kart Track, The Ginger Factory, Maleny Botanic Gardens and Bird World, Top Shots Fun Park, Sunshine Castle and Queensland Air Museum. Kids will also love the hands-on farmyard fun at Maleny Dairies and the chance to pick fresh strawberries at Strawberry Fields.

Beaches

Sunshine Coast beaches are, quite simply, some of the best in the world. They are rimmed with wide stretches of clean, white sand, with a choice of surf or calm bays sparkling with warm water, and most are patrolled by surf lifesavers. Sunshine Coast beaches are rarely crowded with space for everyone to stretch out on the sand, play beach sports, swim, body surf, or jump on a board and ride a wave all the way in to shore. Our beaches are equipped with excellent recreational facilities like beachfront parklands, children’s playgrounds, undercover barbecue and picnic areas, toilets and showers and plenty of parking just a few steps from the sand. All set to enjoy the ultimate, hassle-free beach getaway.

Markets

The Sunshine Coast offers plenty of weekend markets. A majority of them sell fresh and tasty local produce, along with a variety of other items that ranges from apparel, novelties, handcrafts, foodstuffs and bric-a-brac. It is a good idea to get there early so you don’t miss out on some of the festivities or great bargains. Some markets are only open in the mornings, some are only held in the afternoons whilst others are exclusively held in the cool of the evening.

Markets can be a great way to lazily while away a sunny morning or a breezy summer evening, without spending too much money if you’re on a budget. If you’re visiting the Sunshine Coast and would like to take in the markets along with a range of other attractions, maybe consider a tour that includes the markets.

National Parks

As a region with dense, lush foliage and unique hinterland you’d expect that a beautiful attribute of this region is its National Parks. In fact, the Sunshine Coast has more national parks than any other region in Queensland. There are seven in total, and they range from large hinterland areas like the Glass House Mountains, to coastal paradises like Noosa and the southern fringe of Fraser Island.

Dramatically cascading waterfalls, trickling streams and amazing flora and fauna can be clearly seen from using the beautiful winding walking tracks and well established 4wd tracks interspersed throughout many of the parks. Some national parks offer a menagerie of landscapes from volcanic craggy mountains, everglades, freshwater rivers and lakes.

If you’d like to experience the parks in all their glory, one of the best ways to do it has to be the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk. This 58km walk can be done all at once if you are enthusiastic, or in half or full day walks at a time.

Restaurants

The Sunshine Coast is one of Australia’s most popular food playgrounds and culinary centres. The restaurants and dishes on offer are known to be innovative, fresh, cosmopolitan, satisfying and light. The advantage of being near primary industries enables the use of superb fresh local seafood, fruit, vegetables and meats. All the chefs have to do is innovatively put them together with style and flair.

If you’re on holidays in the Sunshine Coast you can treat yourself to fine dining at one of the many al fresco restaurants in major centres. Here, you’ll find everything from fresh fish and chips to innovative Australian cuisine, enjoyed with sunshine and sea breezes. You can also try out one of the local cooking schools.
